Ward Councilors needs to be the eyes, ears, and voice of the people when it comes to overseeing public projects. In the same way a homeowner stays on top of a general contractor, our ward councilor needs to be in constant communication with the city offices that interface with the vendors performing the work in our ward. If they are supposed to be doing the work 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., we should not regularly see work ending at 8:00 p.m., nor should we see work starting at 6:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. If the work requires traffic detours, we should ask our police details to monitor the cut through traffic on small streets to make sure the people living there are not subjected to dangerous conditions. By not accepting donations from vendors or developers, it is much easier to play that role.
