The most frequently asked question:

Who is this guy, Joe Murphy?

I am a candidate for Ward One City Councilor with ideas to help my neighbors and Quincy as a whole.  My campaign themes are about enriching the experience of living in Quincy by standing up against careless spending, reducing waste, and improving communication with the people of Ward One. I want to keep money in residents’ pockets by not asking for political donations and by reining in government spending to finally lower property tax bills.

Personal Info:

My first experience with the Boston area was as an incoming student at the Berklee College of Music.  After graduating, I moved out to Los Angeles to be a professional musician.  I worked as an orchestrator, arranger, and copyist on dozens of major motion pictures, albums, variety shows, and several seasons of American Idol. I was director of Quincy Jones' Score Library and was a union rep for the Los Angeles chapter of the American Federation of Musicians, Local 47.  While working in LA, I met my wife, Cheryl, a New England native.

Cheryl and I left LA in 2007 when she was accepted to a graduate program at Emerson College.  After looking at almost every neighborhood in and around Boston, we felt Quincy felt like home. We rented apartments in Quincy Point while starting our family, and then purchased our own home in Houghs Neck in 2012.

Since coming to Quincy, I have worked as an administrator at MIT and I am currently Assistant Director for Administration at MIT's Center for Bits and Atoms.  My responsibilities include overseeing the department's budget, grant management (including proposals, pre-award, and post-award administration), intellectual property, and corporate sponsor relationships.
